Some of the latest U.S. health statistics from 2009, provided by Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, suggest an alarming 63% of Americans are either overweight or obese. Moreover, only around 5% of American adults do some type of vigorous physical activity on any given day. This research suggests some of this sedentary nature results from long hours sitting in front of a television screen, computer or smart phone. Nexersys has come up with a piece of fitness equipment that will get people off their behinds, exercising and having computer game-like fun, too.
The Nexersys blends elements of mixed martial arts training techniques with an engaging video gaming experience. The equipment is a striking machine that takes its input via seven padded accelerometers that gather data about a user’s workout. It then displays this information interactively via a 19-inch LCD flat-screen monitor with sound or 2.4GHZ wireless headsets. An on-board professional mixed martial arts (MMA) trainer helps guide the user through a series of finely tuned, unique workout programs. These features, taken together, effectively blur the line between exercise and gaming, resulting in an exciting and engaging new product and yielding a relatively new buzzword – “exergaming.”
Exergaming relies on technology that tracks body movement or reaction, and the Nexersys is a complete workout, incorporating a high-level of intensity. High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, arises from the concept that short bursts of extremely rigorous exercise, interspersed with resting periods of regular exercise, can be more beneficial than a longer, more subdued workout.
Additionally, the Nexersys takes advantage of trends in screen-oriented interaction by incorporating elements of gaming in its high-intensity interval exercise scheme. Due to the allure of these gaming traits, it is exceptionally unique in the home fitness industry and helps make the transition from sedentary to active easier than ever. Furthermore, those same gaming traits will give customers a reason to enjoy exercising in front of a screen, while incorporating a great deal of interaction, as well as real-time feedback.
Stay tuned this July for our anticipated release of the Nexersys, taking exercise to an entirely new and exciting level.
